Devine is top Section-Nine finisher at Federation Championships

By RICHARD A. ROSS

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — Monticello’s Brendan Devine capped off his incredible cross-country season by finishing 15th among New York State’s top runners at the Federation Championships held at Bowdoin Park on November 17.

Devine (16:27.8) was Section Nine’s top finisher in the run that includes the best runners from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), the New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association (NYSCHSAA), New York City’s Public School Athletic League (PSAL) and the New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association (NYSAISAA).

Devine finished second in last week’s NYSPHSAA Class A championships, after winning the Section Nine Class A title a week prior. This time out, he was up against runners from all-sized schools from the entire state.

Sullivan West’s Colin Seidl (17:45.2) also competed in the Federation race. He was seventh among Class C runners at states, where he ran a much faster time than at the Federation race. This was the junior’s first season competing in cross-country. He was the Section Nine Class C and Division IV champion.
