An avenue of holiday lights

honors loved ones for the holidays

NEWTON, NJ — The rows of evergreen trees that line Newton Memorial Hospital’s south entrance will be illuminated with thousand of memorial lights starting on Friday, November 16, for the 16th annual C. Edward McCracken Festival of Lights.

The lights are placed on the trees to honor someone special while also beautifying the hospital’s campus during the holiday season. The tradition was started by Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation trustee C. Edward McCracken, who sought a way to brighten the holidays for patients and their families during time spent at the hospital.

The Festival of Lights offers opportunities to remember a loved one with a donation to light an entire tree or contribute a single string of lights. The traditional lighting ceremony will be preceded by a gala reception, and followed by a firework’s display.

Contributor’s names will be recorded in a Festival of Light’s Tribute Book on a recognition board inside the hospital’s main entrance. The hospital will also hold a holiday raffle for a Christmas Fantasy for Two in New York City, which includes two tickets to Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular on December 15, car service to New York City and dinner for two at a New York City restaurant.
