CLIFFORD ALLEN

Clifford Allen of Matamoras, PA, retired from A & W Products and a lifetime area resident, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 78.

The son of the late Harold E. and the late Jennie Weigel Allen Sr., he was born September 10, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY.

A former 18-year employee at Weiss’ Laurel Grove Greenhouse, he was a 1948 graduate of Matamoras High School and was a member of Local No. 445.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce P. Hazen Todd Allen at home; a daughter, Colleen Allen of Matamoras; two stepsons, Jeffrey Todd and wife Terri of Matamoras and Larry Todd and wife Erma of Sparrowbush, NY; stepdaughter Julie Anne Soberg and husband John of Matamoras; a brother, Robert Allen and wife Marie of Columbia, MO; a sister, Eleanor Dilger of Bethlehem, PA; a sister-in-law, Julia Allen of Matamoras; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Seda and Joshua Soberg, both of Matamoras; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Leroy Allen and Harold E. Allen Jr.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY. The Rev. Glenn Scheyhing officiated. Burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras.

DANIEL JOSEPH ARNOLD

Daniel Joseph Arnold of Cochecton, NY, a truck driver for Gasko Meyer, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. He was 25.

The son of William J. Arnold Jr. and Debra Boldt Laffin, he was born December 29, 1981 in Oceanside, Long Island, NY.

He is survived by his father William of Floral Park, Long Island; his mother Debra of Kingston, NY; three sisters, Mary Regina Arnold of Florida, Jennifer Norberto of Livingston Manor, NY and Kristin Lockwood and husband Brett of Narrowsburg, NY; one brother, Justin Arnold of Nebraska; three uncles, Jimmy Cacioli and wife Janice of Long Island, NY, Robert Arnold of Windham, NY and John Goodman of Long Island; an aunt, Patty Brito and husband Rafael of Philadelphia, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 5, 2007 at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY. Cremation followed at Lake Region Cemetery, Lake Ariel, PA.


FLORENCE M. BAUER

Florence M. Bauer of Hankins, NY, a retired cafeteria supervisor for Delaware Valley School and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Edward and Amada (Engert) McGuire, she was born March 8, 1915 in Hankins.

Florence was the widow of Norman P. Bauer. She was the former Grand Regent for Catholic Daughters of America, member of Holy Cross Church and its Alter Rosary Society, member of Sullivan County Cooperative Extension and member of Dairymen’s League.

She is survived by four sons, Lyman Bauer and wife Diana of Inverness FL, Norman W. Bauer and wife Diane of Greene, NY, Ronald Bauer and Jerome Bauer, both of Hankins; her grandchildren, Norman A. Bauer, Scott Bauer, Christine Mitchell Anderson, Timothy Bauer, Patricia Colin Bleak, Valorie Titus and Kelsey Scott Harvey; two step-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Gottschalk and husband Philip of Hankins; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie McGuire, Helen Walters, Bertha and William Milk and Agnes and Karl Spielmann; a nephew, Jerry Walters; and step-granddaughter Kristin and three of her children.

A funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Father Anthony Moore and Father Ignatius Smith officiated. Burial was made in Holy Cross Cemetery, Callicoon.

ROGER WILLIAM HECTOR SR

Roger William Hector Sr. of Beach Lake, PA and former Berlin Township Supervisor, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was 59.

The son of Thomas J. Hector Sr. and the former Clara Hunter of Beach Lake, he was born July 10, 1948 in Honesdale, PA.

Roger was a hard worker and began trucking 42 years ago. In 1991, he began his own company, D & R Trucking in Beach Lake. Roger was the Berlin Township Supervisor for 20 years and was instrumental in saving the Berlin Township Community Center. He was also a member of the Beach Lake Fire Co. and the Beach Lake United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Sharon L. Dickison; a son, Roger Jr. and wife Amanda of Honesdale; a daughter, Desiree Hector Pugh of Honesdale; brothers Tom Hector Jr. and wife Missy of Beach Lake and William and wife Brenda of Brooklyn, PA; a sister, Kathy Mohn and husband Ray of Beach Lake; a mother-in-law, Pearl Hausmann and husband Don of Beach Lake; a father-in-law, Warren Dickison of NJ; two grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his grand-dog, Walker.

He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Hiller.

The funeral was held on Monday, November 5, 2007 at the Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale. Interment followed in Indian Orchard Cemetery.

DAVID HASKELL SAVAGE

David Haskell Savage of Point Pleasant, NJ passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family. He was 88.

Born in New York City, he lived there and in Narrowsburg, NY for 25 years before moving to Point Pleasant a year ago. Although physica11y away from Narrowsburg, his heart remained there.

David was a World War II veteran. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was a retired decorated police officer from the City of New York and after his retirement he also had worked at Leonox Hill Hospital.

A beloved husband and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose Gentilesco Savage; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharen Savage of Port Richie, FL; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jean Marie and Ken Stegman, David Savage, Brian and Rachel Savage and Christian and Marcy Savage; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Jesse and Christian.

Visitation was on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg. A Christian burial will follow.


WILLIAM R. STAESSER

William R. Staesser of Livingston Manor, NY, a lifetime area resident, died on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 73.

The son of William and Emma Knobel Staesser, he was born on February 5, 1934 in Callicoon, NY.

William was a retired heavy equipment operator and owner of Bill’s Gun Shop in Livingston Manor. He was a member of Liberty Elks Lodge #1545 and a charter member of the Livingston Manor Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Tara Hanofee Staesser at home; a son, William Staesser III of Livingston Manor; a daughter, Tracy Staesser of Grahamsville, NY; a brother, John Staesser of Long Eddy, NY; two sisters, Lillian Neer of Long Eddy and Shirley Swendsen of Lakewood, PA; and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Staesser.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.


JAMES E. SWENDSEN

James E. Swendsen of Beach Lake, PA died Thursday, November 1, 2007 in Scranton, PA. He was 71.

The son of the late Richard and Nettie Tyler Swendsen, he was born May 10, 1936 in Honesdale, PA.

James was a retired laborer for IBEW in Syracuse, NY.

He is survived by a daughter, Teresa Gillow and her husband John of Beach Lake; a son, James Swendsen and his wife Jackie of Milanville, PA; three grandchildren; and an aunt, Irene Popielarz of Port Murray, NJ.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Swendsen.

Services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY. Reverend Lane Jones officiated. Interment was held at the Milanville Cemetery, Milanville.

MONIQUE LOVE WEST

Monique Love West of Middletown, NY, formerly of Sullivan County, a direct support professional for New Hope Community, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. She was 28.

The daughter of John T. and Sallie B. Rivers Powell, she was born March 7, 1979 in Queens, NY.

She is survived by her husband, Shawn L. West at home; a daughter, Ta-Shauna West at home; a son, Shaun P.T. West at home; her parents, John and Sallie Powell of Callicoon, NY; three sisters, Darlene Brown of Livingston Manor, NY, Lillian Allen of Livingston Manor and Leila Powell; three brothers, Louis Brown Jr. of Liberty, NY, John Powell of Newburgh, NY and Keith Powell of South Carolina.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty. The Rev. Jimmy Rivers officiated.
