Songwriter Karp to play

at R&B Grille

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY — Singer/songwriter Peter Karp will perform at the R&B Grille at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20.

“I can always tell where I’m going by the record I do,” singer-songwriter Peter Karp says, “because usually a year or two later I’m living some of the songs.

Karp spent his formative years bouncing between places like rural South Carolina and the urban sprawl of the Northeast. His witty, lyrical compositions pinpoint the human condition, and recall a time when the power of music could simply be found in words, and not studio trickery, slick videos or exploding stage shows.

The Cleveland Free Times wrote of his debut album for Blind Pig records, “Shadows and Cracks,” “A sizzling, full- bodied romp through a dozen rootsy tunes with vivid, thoughtful lyrics that can draw on blues, country, folk, and even Western swing.”

The New Jersey Star Ledger wrote, “There is a strong blues influence in his music, but a Dylanesque complexity to his songwriting. ‘(Joseph) Conrad poked fun at my dark, dark heart/(Warren) Zevon cracked wise with a smart-ass remark,’ he sings, in probably the only rock song that name checks both Phil Ochs and Rudyard Kipling and follows a mention of Homer with one of Woody Guthrie.”
