Remembering Smoky Joe

MILFORD, PA — In honor of Pike County baseball legend Smoky Joe Wood, the Pike County Historical Society will host a day of old-fashioned family fun on Saturday, October 27. Events will include a softball game, a home-run derby, prizes, raffles and a birthday bash with live music provided by the Southern Shift Band.

The day starts at 12:00 noon with a softball game featuring the champions of the Pike County Women’s Softball League, who challenge all local business owners, town notables and anyone with a love for the game to join them on the field. Following the softball game will be a home-run derby for kids and the young at heart, with trophies awarded for the most balls hit out of the park.

The day will conclude with a birthday bash for Smoky Joe at the Columns Museum with music, raffles, hot dogs, cracker jacks and beer. Admission to the birthday bash costs $15; other events are free. Registration is required for the home-run derby and to play softball.
