Murder and mayhem… just in time for Halloween

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Tusten Historical Society’s annual Local History Event will take place on Sunday, October 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tusten Town Hall, 200 Bridge Street. John Conway, Sullivan County Historian, will speak, and Ann O’Hara and Gloria McCullough will present “Murder, Mayhem and Sundry Misadventures in Wayne County, PA.” The society’s annual meeting will precede the program. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.

O’Hara moved full time in 1996 to Wayne County, land of her maternal ancestors, with an eye toward researching her family history. In her visits to the Wayne County Historical Society, she encountered her mirror image in McCullough, the society’s research librarian since 1995. She had been employed at The Eckley Miners’ Village Museum near Hazleton, PA before marrying and moving to Wayne County. These “two little old ladies” (as they describe themselves), share an interest in true crime. They searched the society’s collection of newspaper microfilms to ferret out true stories of murder, larceny and general mayhem.

John Conway, Sullivan County Historian since 1993, is an adjunct professor at SUNY Sullivan, and a contributing editor for the Encyclopedia of New York State. He regularly provides context for county news events for the New York Times, Associated Press and Fox News.
