Photographic ‘HorseScapes’

NARROWSBURG, NY — HorseScapes, an exhibit of the photographs of Sarah Van Ouwerkerk, will open at River Gallery-The Art of Living on Saturday, September 22 with a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The exhibit runs through Sunday, October 14.

Van Ouwerkerk is a New Yorker who received her Master of Fine Art in photograghy at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute, where she later served as chair of the media arts department. Her photos have been seen in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions in both the United States and Europe and have appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, Cure Magazine and Women’s Art Journal.

Van Ouwerkerk eye and camera stray from representational images to capture subtle moments and movements that most of us never see. As Van Ouwerkerk puts it, the upcoming exhibit is an unusual exploration of “the horse, a subject matter that exists as its own landscape, grace and power.”
