Harvest Festival features local craftsmanship for the home

BETHEL, NY — The theme for this week’s Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods on Sunday, September 16 will be Rustic for the Home. The festival, which will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will feature hand-made furnishings crafted by local artisans, including a variety of wood carvings, homemade furniture, pottery, accessories and accents for the home.

Music this week will be provided by the Judith Tulloch Band and The Powder Kegs. There will be a book signing by Malachy McCourt, author of “A Monk Swimming.”

As usual, there will be plenty of local and regional produce for sale, along with baked goods and artisan cheeses. There is a Craft Village featuring items by area artisans, corn and hay mazes to explore, pony rides and more. The children’s area includes an arts and crafts tent with artist Mathew Sherman. The annual Gathering of the Scarecrows will be on site once again, and a cash prize will be offered at the end of the season for the most popular scarecrow, voted by visitors.

The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the corner of Hurd and West Shore Roads. Themes for future Sundays will be the Cajun Festival, Earth Day in Autumn and the concluding Chili Day in October on October 7.
