Master acting workshop accepting applications

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — NACL will host Roberta Carreri of The Odin Teatret teaching a week-long intensive training workshop Sunday, November 4 through Sunday, November 11. A maximum of 12 participants will be accepted, and four observer positions are available.

The workshop will be divided into two parts. Part one will concentrate on the actor’s physical training—on the awakening of the actor’s presence. Part two will focus on work with the voice, comprising exercises that awaken the sonority of the voice and develop the capacity to make vocal actions in the space.

Participants will work with Carreri to create a montage using “Four Quartets”, by T.S. Elliot as a basis. All participants are asked to read this work, and to come to the workshop with a memorized text of about 20 lines from “Four Quartets,” as well as a song.

Carreri is a master performer and teacher who has, for 33 years, been a member of the Danish theatre company Odin Teatret, directed by Eugenio Barba. Born in 1953 in Milan, Italy, Carreri has performed around the world in such Odin performances as “Brecht’s Ashes,” “Talabot,” “Kaosmos,” “Mythos,” “Andersen’s Dream,” “Judith,” and her latest work, “Salt.” She gives international theatre workshops for actors and organizes and leads the annual international workshop, Odin Week, at her company’s theatre in Holstebro, Denmark. She is the author of the book “Tracce” (“Traces—Training and History of an actress of Odin Teatret”).

All workshop participants will be accommodated at NACL’s artist residence, which is located adjacent to the theatre. All meals will be provided. NACL serves local organic food prepared by our head chef, and workshop participants sign up for cooking and cleaning shifts throughout the week.

The fee is $850 for food, lodging and workshop fee.

To register, send us a letter of application including your age, experience, training, and interest/purpose in attending the workshop. Send by email at nacl@nacl.org or by postal service at snail mail at NACL, 110 Highland Lake Rd., Highland Lake, NY 12743, Attn: Roberta Carreri Workshop.
