Spangler awarded 2008 NYSCA grant

NARROWSBURG, NY — Local documentary filmmaker Tina Spangler has been awarded a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for the production of “Lucky Lake,” a documentary about a racially mixed vacation community that was robbed of its lake.

Luxton Lake, (aka “Lucky Lake”), located two miles south of Narrowsburg, has a vibrant past, and was a jazz and vacation mecca throughout the 1950s and ’60s. But in 1982, the lake was drained.

“In addition to covering the important history of the lake, I am documenting the current community’s efforts to band together despite racial and other differences, and restore the splendor of the area, and possibly even bring back the lake,” Spangler said.

Spangler shot and edited the first “chapter” of Lucky Lake last year and hosted a special screening at the Delaware Arts Center in Narrowsburg, NY last December.

The $10,000 NYSCA Individual Artist grant is facilitated through the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, a non-profit sponsor of the project.
