Softball sisters celebration season successes
Cooper Paint and Discovery Diamonds win top honors; many others draw acclaim

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, NY - On the field, they are fierce competitors who play softball for fun and a passion to win. Off the field, theyre a happy-go-lucky family that loves to party. And each August, once the playoffs of the Sullivan County Womens Softball League (SCWSL) are finished, thats exactly what they do.
On August 25, they gathered at the Firemans Field with enough food and drink to sustain a small nation. The event: the annual SCWSL picnic and awards presentation.
Before getting the party started that included a DJ and offered a night of dancing and fun, SCWSL President Theresa Nietzel enlisted the help of Robyn Gannon to distribute this years plethora of awards. The big trophies for the regular season went to Klein and Sons Logging for third place in the A division. Charlies Angels got the hardware for second, while Cooper Paints Erin Shuart and Val Fersch claimed the regular-season trophy for the third straight year.
In the B division, Sonnys Garage took third place, Mr. Willys took second and the Discovery Diamonds, represented by Vanessa Koneful, Angela Bakos, LeaAnne Miller and coach Mark Floyd, claimed the first-place regular-season trophy.
In playoff contention, it was Klein and Sons Logging as runner up in the A division, with Cooper Paint taking the playoff trophy for the second consecutive year. Mr. Willys won the runner up trophy in the B Division, and the Discovery Diamonds claimed the trophy for winning the playoff crown.
Sponsor plaques were handed out to each team. Then, those members of each team, who were designated for special award trophies, came forward to bask in the glory.
For the Discovery Diamonds, Maria Ramos was the Most Improved Player (MIP) and Bakos was the MVP. The rest of the awards were as follows: New Hope Community, Jessica Miller and Tammy Sondermeyer, Most Improved Offense (MIO); Klein and Sons Logging, Michelle Ross, MVP, and Cheryl Sheerer, MIP; Dutchs Inn/T&C Tanning, Courtney Price, MIP, and Kathy Jo Hoyt, MVP; Sonnys Garage, Janet Calangelo, Cathy Roser and Jeanne Melchick, Co-MVPs; Lindseys Cuisine, Michelle Logothety and Melonie Cruz, Co-MVPs; Animal Hospital, Jennifer Denbach, MIP, and Robin Chandy MVP; Mr. Willys, Katrina Meyer, MVP, and Jamie Clifford, MIP; ICC, Maria Hyde, MIP, and Linda Brackman, MVP; The Nugget, Kendra Harris, MVP, and Karen Perrello, MIP; L&B Tack, Barb Merton, MVP, and Lizza Giumarra, MIP; Charlies Angels, Debbie Ackerley, Good To Go, and Jessica Bradley, Bad Ass Bradley Newest Infielder; Cooper Paint, Ally McCarthy and Amanda Cox, Co-MVPs, and Erin Shuart, Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Elections for next years officers were held and Nietzel was re-elected to the post of league president. Chris Jersey of Klein and Sons was chosen as vice president, Lori Kimmes of New Hope won the nod as secretary and Kathy Jo Hoyt of Dutchs Bar/T&C Tanning was elected as treasurer.
