Senators join attempt to block NYRI end run

WASHINGTON, DCWhile an attempt by house members to block a proposed power line failed in early August, more powerful senators have taken up the cause. Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer have introduced legislation that would probably prevent construction of the 200-mile power line project.

Stockbridge-Munsee casino has significant hurdles to overcome

ROCK HILL, NYThe Stockbridge-Munsee Indians would like to build a casino in Sullivan County, and their leader thinks residents here should know a little about the tribes history. With that in mind, Robert Chicks, the president of the tribe, gave a presentation to local politicians and community leaders on August 14 at Bernies Holiday Restaurant.

Landfill looms large over election again
Candidates trade accusations at meeting

MONTICELLO, NYThe county landfill may well decide the fate of two local politicians in the November elections, just as it did four years ago. Bob Kunis, who was voted out of office largely because of residents anger about the landfill, attacked the man who replaced him for having done less than nothing about closing the landfill.
