Quartet of local artists to be featured at Old Stone House
WOODBOURNE, NY The Old Stone House Gallery at 282 Hasbrouck Road will feature four local artists at its upcoming exhibit, For the Love of Art, opening Sunday, September 2 and running through Sunday, September 30, with an opening reception on September 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Daniel Smythe, Evelyn Porter, Elise Hornbeck and Ann Higgins will exhibit sculptures, drawings, paintings and photographs with a common thread: their passion for creating with hands and heart.
The exhibit will include a sampling of more than 30 years of creativity by Smythe as a sculptor, painter and master falconer. He is currently exploring the graphite pencil as an artistic tool, penning cartoons, flowers, birds and animals from his intrinsic knowledge of their natural form. Some of these works will be on display, as well as his sculptures and paintings.
Higgins and Porter will show the new directions their art has taken. Higgins new home surroundings in the woods has inspired her current works, executed in pen and watercolor. She employs atmospheric qualities in landscapes, working in large form and miniature.
Porter has found new delight in experimenting with photographic techniques. Her works are done in bold strokes and colors, reflecting her strong vision for abstraction. She chooses colored pencil, oils, acrylic, watercolors and newlythe photograph to express her vision.
Hornbeck uses watercolor and a delicate touch with her brush to create realistic paintings of the scenic Catskills, where she and her husband live on his ancestral farmland. She draws on her travels into the mountains surrounding her home as well as trips to the Adirondacks.
