Learning that comes naturally
LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, PA Over 60 campers spent three fun-filled weeks at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in Dingmans Ferry during the Ultimate Summer Literacy Camp July 9 through 27.
PEECs Ultimate Camp is the first part of the year-round literacy program that gives fourth- and fifth-graders from the Delaware Valley School District the opportunity to refresh their literature and mathematics skills over the long summer months.
During the three-week day camp, students spent their mornings at PEEC alternating between literature and math lessons. In the afternoon, students then participated in hands-on programs such as outdoor living skills, canoeing, climate change, tree identification, soil study and tracking and stalking with PEECs instructors.
This is the fourth year that PEEC has had the opportunity to provide the literacy camp for students. It was uncertain as to whether the camp would take place this year, until Larry and Monica Simon and LTS Builders, Inc. came through. The Simon Family donated $25,000 toward the camp, along with a $25,000 donation made by LTS Builders.
