Teddy Bear Picnic kicks off Black Bear Film Festival

MILFORD, PA — Artists packed up their bears and brought them to a public picnic conducted in Milford’s Lumberyard Shops on August 11. Nearly 30 artists competed for the chance to create a unique bear for the 2007 Black Bear Film Festival. The Abarbanel-Hill family created “Buddha Bear,” at left.

Following the picnic, where members of the public enjoyed free brownies as they snapped photos of the bruins, the bears were transported to sponsor locations throughout town where they will be available for viewing until the festival on October 11 through 14. The bears will be auctioned on the final day of the festival as a fundraiser for the annual film fest, which originated in 2000 to support and promote innovative and independent films and to celebrate Milford’s heritage as a filmmaking location. In addition to main theater offerings requiring tickets, free films are shown at the festival’s Film Salon and Envirofest.
