Storm topples phone poles, power lines

NARROWSBURG, NY - Crashing thunder and hail the size of marbles accompanied a storm that rolled through the area on August 3, and left a tree blocking Erie Avenue. The storm struck at about 4:30 p.m., and damaged phone poles and a transformer. One phone pole, which had been snapped in two, was perched in the middle of the street, suspended by the still attached electrical wires. The jolt of the wires pulled the electric wiring and some siding off of The Yard Sale building at the corner of Erie Avenue and Main Street.

Narrowsburg firefighters were on the scene in minutes, and warned curious residents to stay away from the transformer, which posed a danger because of the potential that it could explode.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
