LESLIE A. COVART SR
Leslie A. Covart Sr. of White Lake, NY, a retired laborer with Local 17 and lifelong resident of the area, passed in peace on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at home. He was 76.
The son of the late Robert and Marie Rouff Covart, he was born July 16, 1931 in Bethel, NY.
Leslie proudly served his country as a PFC in the United States Marine Corp. He fought bravely at the Chosan Reservoir, Korea and received two Purple Hearts. He was an avid hunter and was affectionately known as Santa Claus to local fire companies, for his volunteer work during the holidays. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 1181 of Middletown, NY. He was chairman of the Conservative Party in Bethel, and served on the zoning board of appeals.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Hill Covart; his children, Leslie A. Covart Jr. and fiancé, Fran Barry of Smallwood, NY, Debbie Causer and husband Pete of Ft. Plain, NY, Jerry Covart Sr. and fiancé Gina Han of Port Jervis, NY and Valerie L. Fellenzer and husband Mark of Middletown; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother Alan Covart; and sisters Carol Galietta and Susan Gabriel.
Leslie was predeceased by his brothers Leland Bernhardt, Jimmy Covart, Pete Covart and Donald Covart; and sisters Loretta Engelman and Grace Mullen.
Cremation will be at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY, with private burial of ashes in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
ALFRED JACOBSEN
Alfred K. Jacobsen of Honesdale, PA died Wednesday on July 11, 2007 in St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. He was 44.
The son of the late Alfred C. and Anne M. Seaman Jacobsen, he was born in Staten Island, NY.
He was a truck driver employed by Fox Ledge Company. He was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, Beach Lake Fire Department and Protection Engine Fire Co. #3; a past member of the Seelyville, Welcome Lake and Honesdale Rescue #7 fire departments; a Cubmaster and Den Leader for Cub Scout Troop #410; a youth leader at Beach Lake United Methodist Church; an assistant coach for Missy League and a YMCA coach for T-ball and soccer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Brown Jacobsen; three sons, Bryan Jacobsen of Salisbury, NC, Justin Jacobsen of Rockwell, NC and Scott Jacobsen of Oxnard, CA; two daughters, Michele Lyons of Moyock, NC and Denise Hall of Beach Lake, PA; a sister, Karen Sands of Tunkhannock, PA; a brother, Robert Jacobsen and wife Sue of Tunkhannock; three nephews; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on July 19, 2007 at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, Beach Lake, officiated by Rev. Mark Terwilliger. Interment was in East Dyberry Cemetery.
GARY JAMES LOCKWOOD
Gary James Lockwood of Newton, NJ, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at his home. He was 53.
The son of Gary A. Lockwood of Lookout, PA and the late Anna Mae Wise, he was born in Callicoon, NY.
He worked for Fredon Township in South Newton, NJ.
He is survived by his former wife, Laurie Sue Adams of Lake Ariel, PA; three sons, Gary R. Lockwood of Pennsylvania, James Lockwood of Findlay, OH and Brett Lockwood of Narrowsburg, NY; a daughter, Amanda Lockwood of Honesdale, PA; three sisters, Sarah Bran-
ham of Wind Gap, PA, Cathy LaRocque of Lookout, Laurie Ann Lockwood of Lookout; a brother, David Lockwood of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale. Interment was in Lookout Cemetery.

GARY A. PARSONS
Gary A. Parsons of Callicoon, NY, a self-employed equipment operator and lifetime resident of the area, died July 16, 2007 at home. He was 42.
The son of Harry and Beverly Scullion Parsons, he was born September 29, 1964 in Callicoon.
He is survived by his parents, Harry and Beverly Scullion Parsons of North Branch, NY; a brother, Andrew Parsons of North Branch, NY; a sister, Jamie Parsons of Livingston Manor, NY; nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Cheeka.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 20, 2007. Burial was in Callicoon Center Cemetery, Callicoon Center, NY.

HELEN J. SAINES
Helen J. Saines of Shohola, PA passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007 at home. She was 72.
The daughter of Walter and Marjorie (Holland) Renwick, she was born August 30, 1934 in St. Marys, PA. She was married to George Saines.
Helen was a member of St. Patricks Church, Milford, PA; a volunteer for Horton Memorial Hospital, Middletown; and served 20 years in the Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry.
She is survived by her husband, George; her son, Steven Saines of Logan, OH; three daughters, Julie Meade and Jennifer Pinch, both of Middletown, and Penelope Bickoff of New Paltz, NY; her mother, Marjorie Renwick of St. Marys; a sister, Joann Beveridge of St. Marys; a brother, Steve Renwick of Middletown; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patricks Church, Milford on Friday, July 20. The Rev. Gerald Mullally officiated. Following a repast, interment took place in the Wallkill Cemetery, Town of Wallkill.

VERA TOBIN
Vera Tobin of Callicoon, NY, a retired librarian for the Delaware Free Library, Callicoon, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 94.
The daughter of the late Otto and Augusta Backert, she was born August 20, 1912 in New York City.
Vera was the widow of Neil Tobin. She was one of the original founders of the Delaware Free Library and also a founder of the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon. She was an avid reader of books and an avid bowler.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Jim Tobin of Hornell, NY and Jack Tobin of Hancock, NY; her sons, Pat Tobin of Atlanta, GA, David Tobin of California and Terry Tobin of Fishkill, NY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Alan Hankins and Donald Hankins; and a daughter, Marilyn Tobin Sharetts.
A Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Holy Cross Church, Route 97, Callicoon. Father Ignatius Smith OFM officiated. Interment was held at St. Patricks Cemetery, Long Eddy, NY.

ARTHUR WRIGHT
Arthur Wright of Beach Lake, PA, a retired toolmaker and longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, PA. He was 79.
The son of the late Sam and Perna Jones Wright, he was born August 23, 1927 in Missouri.
He is survived by his son, Arthur J. Wright and his wife Donna of Beach Lake; his daughter, Karen Wright and her fiancée David Barnes of Beach Lake; two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Wright; four brothers, Marvin, John, Robert and Conard; two sisters, Wanita and Carol; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his grandson, John Wright.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.
