Its Civil War weekend in Liberty
LIBERTY, NY The 20th annual Civil War Encampment and Battle Reenactment will be held on Saturday, July 28 to Sunday, July 29 at Walnut Mountain Park, a quarter mile outside Liberty on Route 55 west. Gates will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to the conclusion of the battle on Sunday.
Visitors to the reenactment can see how the Civil War was fought, how the soldiers lived day to day, the uniforms and equipment they used and the ways that they passed the endless hours between engagements. They can enter authentic campsites and talk to the soldiers as they demonstrate their cooking, weapon drills and camp activities.
The reenactment will reach a climax with a full-scale battle each afternoonbut that wont be the end of the day on Saturday. Those who wish to witness a Civil War camp at night, may return Saturday evening for a candlelight tour. They will be guided through the night by a lantern-bearing soldier to many different stations to be entertained by the reenactors.
There is a concession on site and you are welcome to visit the Sutlers where the participants purchase their uniforms and equipment. Bring lawn chairs for maximum comfort while viewing the battle.
General admission costs $10, seniors $8 and children five and under are admitted for free. The candlelight tour costs $5 extra.
