Special landscape tour planned at Grey Towers

MILFORD, PA — Visitors will get a guided tour to the variety and beauty of the landscaping at Grey Towers National Historic Site at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. Among the riches at the site are flowering and fruiting native shrubs, a water-filled moat with floating lilies, an outdoor dining table made of water and a meeting room that used to be a child’s playhouse.

The tour, “Evolution of the Grey Towers Landscape: Summertime in Cornelia’s Gardens,” will feature Grey Towers Horticulturist Elizabeth Hawke and an inside look at how some of the landscape plants, trees and buildings were incorporated into the design of the 1886-French Chateauesque mansion estate by the Pinchot family. Grey Towers, donated to the public in 1963, currently is administered by the USDA Forest Service as a museum, education and conference center.

This program differs from regular public tours because the entire program will be focused on the exterior grounds of the estate. Group size is limited and pre-registration is suggested. Regular tour fees apply.
