Presentation celebrates conservation
corps anniversary
HURLEYVILLE, NY There will be a presentation on the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2 at the Hurleyville Museum, 265 Main Street, to honor the CCCs 75th anniversary. In the CCC, known as The Roosevelt Tree Army, 3,000,000 boys served in 4,500 camps moving and planting 45 million trees and planted 3 billion trees across the nation from 1933 to 1942. They built 28,087 miles of trails, built 3,116 lookout towers, built 7,622 dams and installed 5,000 miles of water supply, among other accomplishments. The presentation will be given by John Dowd. The general public, and especially CCC veterans, are invited to attend.
