Port Jervis plans to document its centennial day

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Minisink Valley Historical Society, the Port Jervis Centennial Committee and Jason Randolph Graphic Design are collaborating on a special documentary photograph project called “A Day in the Life of the City of Port Jervis: July 26, 2007.” A meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at the Common Council Chambers, Port Jervis Municipal Building at 20 Hammond Street in Port Jervis to discuss the project.

The project will commemorate the City of Port Jervis’ centennial of the receipt of its charter from New York State in 1907. The project committee invites area photographers to document the city’s life on that particular day for posterity. The inspiration for the project comes from a book that was published in 1986 called “A Day In The Life of America,” which created a photographic record of the country from coast to coast, from midnight to midnight.

After the festivities end, photographers will turn in their photographs to Jason Randolph Graphic Design, who will create a DVD including a collection of the photographs that have been taken along with caption and identification information.

Area photographers and the general public are invited to attend the June 12 meeting and help lay out the parameters of the project. A follow-up meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at the same location to discuss any final details and preparations.
