Callicoon Creek will be racetrack for a day

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Jeffersonville Enhances More of Sullivan (JEMS) will present its first annual Duck Race at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. The race will begin at the millpond and end at Schadt Memorial Bridge.

Following the success of similar races in Liberty and Wurtsboro, JEMS decided that a duck race would make a great fundraising vehicle—especially since Jeffersonville has the perfect “racetrack” in its back yard, Callicoon Creek. Duck herders will be enlisted to make sure all the ducks keep floating and don’t get caught up on rocks or debris. Participants can buy one of the colorful plastic steeds for $5 for one duck, $10 for three, $15 for five and $20 for eight. There will be a first prize of $200, a second prize of $100 and a third prize of $50. All racing ducks can be reclaimed by the owners directly after the race.

JEMS will use the proceeds for the benefit of community improvements and beautification, including the athletic fields of the Jeffersonville campus of Sullivan West. Tickets are available at a variety of locations including The Three Chocolateers, 845/482-5831, The Secret Garden, 482-5195, Specially U Beauty Salon, 482-4033, and Mane Street Styles Beauty Salon, 482-3042.
