ALBERT V. CIRINO

Albert V. Cirino of Milanville, PA, formerly of Lyndhurst, NJ, a retired cost estimator for ITT, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, PA. He was 88.

The son of the late Ciro and Anna Cirino, he was born February 27, 1919 in Jersey City, NJ.

Albert served during World War II in the U.S. Army. A family statement reads, “Vincent was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a classy guy. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.”

He survived by his two daughters, Ann T. Cirino Campagnolo, Milanville and Claire R. Cirino of Beach Lake, PA; his son, James Edward Cirino and his wife Sandra of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Josephine Affinto Cirino; and his son in law, Ronald Campagnolo.

Graveside services took place on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ.

FRANCIS J. FINCH

Francis J. Finch of Port Jervis, NY, retired from C & D Power Systems and a lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was 77.

The son of the late William and the late Ruth Goddard Finch, he was born April 6, 1930 in Sparrowbush, NY.

An army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post No. 161, Port Jervis. Francis was a great and loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved to fix things.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores DeGroat Finch at home; five daughters, Peggy Smith and her husband Rodney of Queen Creek, AZ, Joyce Padgett and her husband Stanley of Montague, NJ, Judy Wilson and her husband Chet of Shohola, PA, Brenda Eyre and her husband Brian of Forest Grove, OR and Frances Biccum and her companion Joseph Pap of Montague; five brothers, William Finch and Raymond Finch of Port Jervis, Robert Finch of Montague, Herbert Finch of Beaverton, OR and Henry Finch of San Antonio, TX; three sisters, Liz Finch of Hollywood, CA, Eleanor Lee of San Antonio, TX and Edith Whistler of Port Jervis; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis with Rev. Robert Mayer officiating. Burial was at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY.


DORIS HESSE

Doris Hesse, beloved mother, mentor and dear friend, died at home in April, 2007. She was 89 years old.

A lifelong New Yorker, Doris had lived in Sullivan County for the past 10 years. She was a compassionate, caring person who especially loved children and animals. After her children were grown, she started and ran a pre-school on Long Island which, under her direction, became known for its enriching, positive instruction, helping children reach their full potential in a creative and happy environment.

She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Lynn Hesse of New York City and Star and Michael Lovelace of Narrowsburg, NY; her brother, Don Hubbard of Coronado, CA; several nieces and a nephew; and a legion of friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Hesse.

There was a private cremation. Those wishing to honor her memory may send a memorial contribution to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or the Port Jervis Humane Society, 202 Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771. And, when the opportunity presents itself, do something kind for a fellow creature. She would have liked that.


DANA L. JULKERSKI

Dana L. Julkerski of Woodbourne, NY, a lifelong resident, as well as an admission administrator at Mount Saint Mary’s College, Newburgh, NY, died May 18, 2007 at her home. She was 29.

The daughter of Michael Julkerski and the late Carol Sue Gorton Julkerski, she was born April 5, 1978 in Middletown, NY.

She is survived by her father, Michael Julkerski of Woodbourne; her brother, Bret Julkerski and his wife Wendy of Narrowsburg, NY; two nephews, Austin and Kyle Julkerski of Narrowsburg; and her fiancé, David Garber of Woodbourne.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Napanoch, NY with Rev. Eileen Daunt officiating. Burial was in The Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville.

PATRICIA A. KNACK

Patricia A. Knack of Callicoon, NY, a homemaker and longtime area resident, was promoted into the presence of her Lord and savior on May 15, 2007.

The daughter of Louise Kossman Braune and the late Fred Braune, she was born at Randolph Field, Bexar County, TX on September 20, 1943.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus, PA.

She is survived by her mother, Loise Kossman Braune; her husband, Gus Knack at home; her daughter, Patti Kellam and her husband Randall of Tyler Hill, PA; two grandchildren, Tom and Amanda Kellam; two brothers, Fred Braune Jr. and Edward Braune, both of Texas; a sister in law, Edith Brown of Callicoon; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Damascus, PA. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Damascus with the Reverend Stuart Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Overlook Cemetery in Damascus.

DOLORES A. MITCHELL

Dolores A. Mitchell of State College, PA, formerly of Wayne County, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the Hearthside Nursing Center. She was 84.

The daughter of the late Bernard and Caroline Renken Rimlinger, she was born December 26, 1922 in White Mills, PA. On June 14, 1947, she married George R. Mitchell, who died October 5, 1971.

Dolores graduated in 1940 from Honesdale Catholic High School and in 1944 from the Jersey City School of Nursing. She worked for 40 years as an RN at Callicoon General Hospital and Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon, NY, retiring in 1984. She then worked part-time in a rural doctor’s office from 1987 to 1992.

She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Mitchell and her husband Bruce Hwozdek of State College, PA; her son, Thomas Mitchell of State College; her grandchildren, Jonathan Mitchell, Lindsay Keiter, Michael Mitchell and Whitney Keiter; her sisters, Audrey Brundage of Honesdale, PA and Claire Muench of Matamoras, PA; her brother, Henry Rimlinger and his wife Judy of Hawley, PA; and a daughter-in-law, Georgia Mitchell of Tyler Hill, PA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, John Mitchell in 1949 and Bruce Mitchell in 1985; and a brother, Lawrence Rimlinger in 1944.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

WINNIE B. MYERS

Winnie B. Myers, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, entered into rest on Friday, May 18, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Place, Port Jervis, NY. She was 76.

The daughter of the late Winford and Bessie Horton Bennett, she was born November 17, 1930 in West Caldwell, NJ. She was the widow of John E. Myers.

Winnie was a member of the Eldred Congregational Church, a member of River Valley Chapter #33, O.E.S. and a member of The Order of the Amaranth.

She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Myers and his wife Cheryl of Washingtonville, NY and Raymond Myers of Eldred, NY; one brother, Alfred Bennett of Easton, MD; one grandson, Gregory Pentz; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted in the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis on Monday, May 21, 2007 with very close friend of the family, the Rev. Linda Bohs, officiating. Eastern Star services were held at 12:30 p.m. Interment was private.

WILSON STERLING

Wilson “Mr. Bill” Sterling of Glen Spey, NY died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at home. He was 84.

The son of the late Leslie and the late Hazel Barton Sterling, he was born February 24, 1923 in Otoe, NB.

Wilson married Catherine Cheevers Sterling on December 9, 1962 in Hackensack, NJ. He was a retired service manager for Hughes Environmental Engineering, Monsey, NY. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of Roosa-Fleming VFW Post No. 161, Port Jervis; Lumberland Senior Group; Highland Senior Group; Mohican Lake Civic Association; RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Sullivan County); Sullivan First of Lumberland; and a past member of the Environmental Management Council in Lumberland. Bill was most recently the 2007 recipient of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce Pride Award.

A family statement read: “Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all the neighborhood children, often teaching them to fish, catch worms or giving them snacks. He was involved in his community and was loved by all because of his caring demeanor and sense of humor. We love him so much and he will be missed.”

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Catherine Sterling, at home; his son, Kenneth Sterling of Stockholm, Sweden; his daughters, Diane Wagner of Deerfield Beach, FL, Carol Wickersheim of Hackensack, NJ and Dale Sterling of New York, NY; a brother, James Sterling of Banning, CA; sisters, Virginia Bystricki and her husband Edward of Palm Dessert, CA and Marilou Thompson and her husband Paul of Canyon City, CO; grandchildren, Robert Wickersheim and his wife Joyce of Hackensack, Scott Wickersheim and his wife Diane of Maywood, NJ, Todd Wickersheim and his fiancé Dana Ford of Hackensack, Joy Wickersheim of Hackensack and Jazz Sterling Brown of New York; four great-grandchildren, Theresa, Alex, Alison and Ashley; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, Leslie; and his sister, Marguerite.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY with Pastor Richard Hotzler officiating. Cremation was at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
