Artists hold open studio exhibit

CALLICOON, NY — Artists Kathe Frantz and Charles Farless, who recently moved into the old Curtis-VanBergeijk house, invite the public to an open studio exhibit from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27 in their new studio at 9275 Route 97.

Farless specializes in oil paintings and works on paper. The subject of his recent work is “Fantastic Flowers.” These colorful works in oil present unusual floral-based figurations in a landscape setting. The palette is rich and provocative while the vivid subjects of the compositions convey gentleness and complexity.

Frantz will display works from her series “Double Ellipse” and selected works. Also an oil painter, her abstract works are based on nature. “The formal abstraction of the ellipse invites an intellectual bridge to take a visual trip as you wander through the lushness of paint strokes that reference land, sea and sky,” she said.

The two painters are from New York City, via the loss of studio space to development in Jersey City. Frantz said, “We are looking forward to having our art practices based in Callicoon and participating in this event.”

The studio shares the lawn that will be used for the St. James spring fair on the same days, so visitors can view an art exhibit and browse the flea-market booths with only one stop.
