Port holds centennial tribute concert

PORT JERVIS, NY — There will be “A Centennial Tribute to Port Jervis” fundraising concert, featuring the Tri-State Community Chorus, at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 at the Port Jervis High School auditorium, on Route 209 north.

The concert will include well-known songs of the various periods of the city’s history as well as a historical narrative. During the intermission there will be a display of historic photographs and images that was created by Brian Lewis and William Clark for the Tri-State Railway Preservation Society.

The Tri-State Community Chorus was first created during America’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. Since that time, the chorus has presented a multitude of musical composers such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe and productions like “Let Us Entertain You” and “Two on the Isle.” The chorus is open to anyone in the tri-State area.

Tickets will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The event is sponsored by the Minisink Valley Historical Society and the Port Jervis Centennial Committee, and is part of a year-long series of events commemorating the city’s official incorporation and chartering on July 26, 1907.
