BRIAN LEE DAVIDSON

Brian Lee Davidson, a lifetime Sullivan County resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a long illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Newburgh, NY on Thursday, April 19, 2007. He was 31.

The son of Bruce P. Davidson and Hilda Castillo, he was born June 18, 1975 in Monticello, NY.

Brian was a counselor for Sullivan ARC at the Franklin House in Monticello. He also was a construction worker. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Liberty.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Bruce P. and Agnes Davidson Sr. of Loch Sheldrake, NY; his mother, Hilda Castillo of Puerto Rico; his maternal grandmother, Christiana Grullon of Woodridge, NY; his companion, Theresa Rizzitano at home; two daughters, Ashley Rizzitano and Samantha Rizzitano at home; five brothers, Bruce P. Davidson Jr. and his wife Mary of Liberty, NY, Brad Davidson of Glen Wild, NY, John Borgia of Woodridge, Robert Borgia and his wife Jacqueline of North Carolina, and Brendan Davidson of Loch Sheldrake; six sisters, Melissa Corigliano and husband Michael of Liberty, NY, Gina Maliga of Woodridge, Gina Tanaka and Douglas of Smallwood, NY, Elizabeth Davidson of Hurleyville, NY, Michelle Davidson of Brooklyn and Kaitlyn Davidson of Loch Sheldrake; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 23, 2007 at St. Peter’s Church in Liberty with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating. Burial will be in Lew Beach Cemetery, Lew Beach, NY.

MAYA DIUGUID

Maye Diuguid, the widow of John S. Diuguid and the former owner and operator of Yellow Cab Company in Monticello, NY, died on Thursday, April 19, 2007 in Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 86.

The daughter of Joseph and Tillie Green Brown, she was born in New York City on August 21, 1920. She was a longtime member of Hadassah, the City of Hope and B’nai Birth.

She is survived by her two sons, John Diuguid of Eldred, NY and Dennis Diuguid and his wife Pat of Monticello; her six grandchildren: Todd, Allison, Samantha, Bradley, Taylor and Randall; and her two great grandchildren, Jordan and Lilly.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 22, 2007 in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello. Rabbi Michele Medwin officiated.

JAMES EDMONDS

James Edmonds of Callicoon, NY, a 21-year resident of the area, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Pine Valley Center for Rehabilitation. He was 83.

The son of the late Jack Edmonds and Sarah McManus, he was born on January 4, 1924 in Clyde Bank, Scotland.

James was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Material Yard Workers Union. He was an accomplished bagpiper for over 70 years. Before coming to America, James was a crane operator in Scotland for John Brown Ship Yards. He worked on the construction of many famous ships. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine; their children, Carol Edmonds of Callicoon, Linda Richroath and her husband Donald of Brooklyn, NY, Martin Edmonds of Mount Kisco, NY and Glenn S. Edmonds Sr. and his wife Gail of Monroe, NY; his grandchildren, Glenn, Grace and Graig Edmonds and Patricia, James and Erin Richroath; and many nieces and nephews in Scotland.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 and Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe. A funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart Church, 141 Stage Road, Monroe, with the Rev. George Pulparayil officiating. Cremation was at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester.

IDA MUELLER

Ida Mueller, a homemaker of Cochecton, NY, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 at Skilled Nursing Unit, Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 99.

The daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Hornig Drewien, she was born March 21, 1908 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of the late Julius Mueller.

Ida was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church and the Rosary Society of the church in Lake Huntington, NY.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Ackermann and her husband William of Cochecton, Marilyn Calkin and her husband Fenton of Oneonta, NY, Edwin Mueller and his wife Wilma of Cochecton and Thomas Mueller and his wife Judi of Raphine, VA; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church. Father Bill Scully will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.

THOMAS M. HALLORAN

Thomas M. Halloran of Sullivan County, a retired Meter Installer for New York State Gas & Electric Co., Liberty, NY, died April 16, 2007 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty. He was 94.

The son of Edward and Annie Page Halloran, he was born in Glendale, NY on January 31, 1913.

He is survived by his children, Thomas Halloran and his wife Caroline of Poughkeepsie, NY, Maureen Schlott and her husband Raymond of Callicoon Center, NY, Kathleen Halloran of Sarasota, FL, his caregiver, Joyce Halloran and her husband Karl Mantenieks of Narrowsburg, NY, Sharon Mungeer and her husband Garfield of Parksville, NY and their mother, Evelyn DeSane; many grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Patrice MacEntee; one brother, Edward; and four sisters, Gladys, Myrtle, Mabel and Shirley.

A funeral mass was held on Saturday, April 21 at St. Peters Church, Liberty with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.


ARTHUR H. SAAF

Arthur H. Saaf of Rowland, PA died on April 21, 2007 following an illness. He was 85.

The son of the late Herman and Anna Smutney Saaf, he was born in Brooklyn, NY.

Arthur was a commercial artist and cartoonist for Benton & Bowls Advertising Agency

His artwork was featured in “Highlights for Children,” “PA Game News” and DC Comics. He was a founding member of Central Volunteer Fire Department, Sunday school teacher at St. Luke’s & Bethel Lutheran churches and a member of Hillview Rod & Gun Club. He loved working with his flower gardens and tomato plants.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marla and Rich Krochta of Rowland; two sons, Jeffrey A. Saaf of Rowland and Steve Saaf of Montano, CA; two sisters, Joan Sears of Belton, SC and Ann McCormick of New Hyde Park, NY; and grandchildren Tia, Mason, Benjamin and Stephen.

He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma S. (Solversen) Saaf and a brother, Charles.

Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 with the Rev. Norman R. Beighley officiating. Cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.
