International Food Tasting to tempt palates for a fifth year

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will hold its fifth annual International Food Tasting on Sunday, May 6 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Honesdale High School on Terrace Street. This unique event features cuisine from many regions, countries and cultures, prepared by well-known local chefs, as well as members and friends of the Wayne County Arts Alliance.

What began five years ago as a modest fundraiser has turned into a large and much-anticipated party, and a contribution to the cultural life of the community. Last year, nearly 400 guests sampled from 50 dishes and desserts. Cooks from Belgium, Jordan, Slovakia, India, Greece, Sweden, Spain, France, Turkey and Uganda were among those providing food. This year’s lineup will be just as diverse.

Some participating cooks wear traditional dress and are happy to share information about the cultures they represent while they serve their ethnic specialties. Many vegetarian dishes will be among the offerings. This year, a streamlined serving setup will mean little time waiting in line.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission costs $10 for eight samples. Additional samples cost $1 each. Soda, juice and specialty coffee drinks can be purchased for $1. Guests may dine in or take out.

The International Food Tasting is a fundraiser for their annual Open Studio Tour (scheduled for July 27-29). The tour provides an opportunity for residents to visit with artists in their studios and see the remarkable work being created in Wayne County. Free brochures for the tour will be available at the tasting.
