Generals perfect against Orange
MIDDLETOWN, NY - The Sullivan County Community College Generals took game one of the Quickway Series from Orange County Community College by the score of 11-0. Freshman Chris Daniels (Wappingers Falls/RC Ketcham) pitched a five-inning perfect game.
The game was called after the fifth inning as Region XV uses the mercy rule in which a team ahead by 10 or more runs after five innings is declared the winner. Daniels pitched to the minimum of 15 hitters, and struck out six. Daniels helped his cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs.
Jonathan Valerio (Bronx/Chelsea HS) hit a solo homerun, while Mark Roarty (Secaucus/Hudson Catholic) had two hits and an RBI. Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island/New Dorp HS) and Dan Murray (Saugerties/Kingston HS) each recorded two hits for the Generals.
Chris has been our number-one arm all year, and today he looked like it, said Generals coach Mike Marra. He went right after the hitters, challenged them with his best fastball and they couldnt get on top of it or square it up. Once we got the lead in the first inning, you could see Chris start to throw with a great deal of confidence.
Sullivan improves to 9-15 while Orange drops to 9-14.
Orange won the middle games of the series but the Generals won the fourth game to split the series. See riverreportersports.com for more details.
