Earth Day celebrated with ‘Song of Songs’

BLOOMINGBURG, NY — The Country House Arts Center will present Denise Assante in a performance of “Song of Songs” on Saturday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m.. This performance piece of the Song of Solomon from the King James version of the Old Testament will be offered by this talented actress as a “prayer for peace” during the Earth Day weekend.

“Song of Songs” is an intimate conversation with God, a love story between the soul and God in the guise of a young woman from the plains of Sharon and a shepherd, the beloved, who is, in truth, a king.

Solomon was a king who built the first temple to God in Jerusalem. His reign was a period of peace for his people. His book is an allegory of God’s love for the children of Israel.

Assante, a member of an accomplished acting family, will perform this solo dramatic piece in the lovely setting of the Country House Arts Center, a special performing and visual arts space at the foot of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge.

Tickets for “Song of Songs” cost $10, and refreshments will be available. Reservations are recommended. The Country House Arts Center is located at 271 Stone Schoolhouse Road in Bloomingburg. For more information call 845/733-4309.
