Frost Valley to hold sporting weekend

CLARYVILLE, NY — Frost Valley YMCA will hold a family sporting weekend on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Sunday will feature the first of four 2007 competitions on its “3-D” archery competition course, the most recent addition to Frost Valley’s facilities to hone outdoor skills, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. The course is a half-mile loop trail through woods and fields incorporating a variety of terrain and natural habitats. The targets, which are life-like foam figures positioned in natural settings, will be moved to new locations on future competition days.

The entry fee for the competition is $10 per adult, $6 for children 13 and under. Competitors must bring their own bows and arrows.

On Saturday there will be presentations on fly fishing and pioneer crafts, and wildlife hikes.

Frost Valley will also host the New York State Hunter Safety Certification Course on both days, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Individual participants must complete both eight-hour days to earn the certificate, which is required to obtain a hunting license in New York State. There is no fee for the course, which is taught by volunteer trainers for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

There are no fees for the weekend’s activities except as stated for the archery competition.
