Generals sweep Westchester CC for first Region XV wins

VALHALLA, NY - The Sullivan Generals of Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) won their first two Region XV games of the season on Saturday with 8-3 and 6-5 wins vs. the Westcos.

In game one, Corey VanKeuren (Parksville/Liberty) picked up his first collegiate win with a complete game, striking out seven and scattering seven hits. Chris Gonzalez (Bronx/St. Raymond’s) and Lenin Sepluveda, (Middletown/Middletown) led the Generals’ attack with two doubles.

“Corey gave a us a big lift today,” SCCC coach Mike Marra said. “He mixed his pitches and threw strikes and our defense made plays behind him all day”

Generals work magic again in game two

Mark Roarty (Secacus, NJ/Hudson Catholic) went two-for-four, including the game-winning sacrifice fly that plated Chris Daniels (Wappingers Falls/RC Ketcham) with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Gonzalez (Bronx/St. Raymond’s) had two hits and two RBI, Ali Ferreiras (Bronx/Alfred Smith) went two-for-four with a run scored and Jonathan Valerio (Bronx/Chelsea) blasted a solo HR to lead the Generals.

“We were down 3-0 and 5-2 and came back to tie it in the fifth and win it in the ninth, which shows a lot of character in our club,” Marra said.

Chris Daniels (Wappingers Falls/RC Ketcham) picked up the win pitching, three and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief.

The Generals are 7-11 (2-4 Region XV) and will play at Rockland CC on April 10 at 6:00 p.m.
