Ross wins Best Sports Coverage for second time in three years

When it comes to recognizing great sports coverage NYPA knows best

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Covering area sports in a thorough and captivating fashion is the agenda of Richard A. Ross, The River Reporter’s sports editor, who gives a new meaning to the phrase, “The Power of One.”

This year, for the second time in the past three years, the New York Press Association confirmed its award for Best Sports Coverage on Ross and The River Reporter based on its perusal of papers from the months of May and November of 2006.

The spring pages were densely paced, with riveting stories and pictures of track and field, baseball, softball, golf and the Highland Triathlon. In November, the paper brimmed with crisp coverage of area football, boys and girls soccer, cross-country, girls tennis and fall cheerleading.

Ross also won a second- place award for Sports Feature Photography for his pictures from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) boys basketball championships at Glens Falls.

This year’s awards follow prior first-place awards by Ross for Sports Action Photography, Sports Feature Photography and Best Column. Follow the daily achievements of area athletes year-round at riverreportersports.com and each week in The River Reporter.
