Mother love

A female eagle tries to keep her eggs warm in a nest on the Upper Delaware after a storm dumped well over a foot of snow on the area last Friday and Saturday. If the adult moves or leaves and the snow caves in on the eggs, the embryos will be chilled and die. A few years ago, an April storm dumped about two feet of wet snow on the area. Many bald eagle nests suffered failure. Incubation is a critical time for the eagles; it is important not to disturbthe eagles and to keep at least 1000 feet away from the nests.
