SCCC cross country team recognized for academic achievement

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — The Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) Generals cross-country team has been recognized for its academic achievement during the 2006 fall season. According to Coach Chad Nykamp, four members of his six-person team received national and regional academic awards for their success in the classroom.

Two team members received the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Coaches Association All Academic honors. To be eligible, a student athlete must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA). The two Generals receiving this honor were Bill Berger from Jeffersonville, NY, with a perfect 4.0 grade GPA, and Alex Gil, from Bronx, NY, with a 3.58 GPA. Berger earned the highest GPA of all the athletes submitted for this national honor.

Four Generals were also recognized by the Mid Hudson Conference and Region XV. In addition to Berger and Gil, Chris Curto from Margaretville, NY, with a 3.28 GPA, and Sean Dolberry from Bronx, NY, with his 3.07 GPA, all received academic honors from these regional associations. To receive Mid Hudson and Region XV honors, a student must have at least 3.0 and 3.25 GPAs respectively.
