Pans Labyrinth comes to CineArt
Imagination and reality intertwine in Del Toros dark fantasy
CALLICOON, NY Pans Labyrinth, an internationally acclaimed film and winner of three Academy Awards, will be the CineArt presentation for March at Callicoon Theater. Showings of Guillermo Del Toros adult fairy tale will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8; 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11; and 9:45 p.m. on March 11.
Set in Spain in 1944, the story is told through the eyes of a little girl whose imaginary world is inhabited by nightmarish creaturesechoing nightmares in the real world of fascist-era Spain she inhabits.
The film, which is R-rated, received Oscars for Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Achievement in Makeup, as well as numerous domestic and foreign awards including Best Foreign Language Film from the Boston Film Critics, National Society of Film Critics and Washington, DC Area Film Critics.
Jim Emerson, of the Chicago Sun-Times, wrote, It's a fairy tale of such potency and awesome beauty that it reconnects the adult imagination to the primal thrill and horror of the stories that held us spellbound as children. A.O. Scott of The New York Times wrote, The brilliance of Pans Labyrinth is that its current of imaginative energy runs both ways. If this is magic realism, it is also the work of a real magician.
CineArt is a partnership between Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater that promotes and screens independent, foreign and art films. A percentage of the profits and $1 per person from ticket sales benefit the programs and services of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County.
