‘Hour Town’ to be theme of WCAA’s summer art project

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Each summer, the Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) sponsors a summer public artworks project in which standard templates like deer or birdhouses are transformed by local artists into art installations that decorate businesses and public places throughout the county. This year’s summer public artworks project is entitled “Hour Town” and will feature wall-mounted art clocks embellished by WCAA member artists.

The basic clocks are 30 inches high and have a visible pendulum that sways behind a glass door. These clocks will go on display Memorial Day weekend at each sponsoring merchant’s place of business. Wherever an art clock is located, there will also be a flag outside to show the community and visitors that there are treasures to be discovered within. WCAA’s director Tamara Murray said, “We all know that ‘time is money,’ but now it’s also art.” On August 18, the clocks will go up for public auction at the Honesdale High School.

If you are an artist interested in creating a unique clock or a business interested in sponsoring one, please contact WCAA’s art event coordinator Ellen Silberlicht at teachart@ptd.net.
