NEW PALTZ, NY With 10 championship games being played, it was hard to keep up with it all, but here is a brief recap of the outcomes. (See enclosed score box for final tallies.)
Boys: Class AA: Newburgh demolished Kingston and continues its juggernaut season to take on the winner of Mount Vernon (1) versus Binghamton (4).
Class A: Cornwall defeated Red Hook in a nail biter that saw the lead change 13 times in a game that was tied up four times. Cornwall freshman Kyle Bradley broke the game open with a trio of threes and a key lay-up in the latter part of the fourth quarter. Cornwall moved on to play state champion Peekskill on March 6.
Class B: Burke was nearly ousted by seventh-seeded Marlboro, a Cinderella that had already knocked out number two Pine Plains and number three Highland (in overtime). The Dukes tied the game with 5.1 seconds to go after missing a potential game-winning wide-open three. Burke advanced to play Section Ones Briarcliff
Class C: Tri-Valley edged Millbrook and advanced to play Alexander Hamilton (1) (see back page story).
Class D: A revamped John A. Coleman Catholic team buried a somnambulant S.S. Seward team. Coleman advanced and got a bye into the second round to face either Section Ones Clark Academy or Section 11s Shelter Island.
Girls: Class AA: Kingston defeated Minisink Valley and will take on the winner of White Plains (1) and Union-Endicott (4).
Class A: Cornwall got sweet revenge over Red Hook for its one-point loss in last years final. The Lady Dragons were slated to face Lakeland (1).
Class B: John S. Burke easily disposed of Highland and was slated to take on Section Ones Albertus Magnus, a team they beat in the regular season.
Class C: Defending champ Millbrook edged a young Tuxedo squad and now encounters Section Ones Blind Brook.
Class D: S.S. Seward had little trouble with John A. Coleman Catholic, and now looks to make a run at the final four before it moves back to Class C next year. They will face Section Ones Solomon Schechter or Shelter Island (11).
