VINCENT E. AVERSA SR

Vincent E. Aversa Sr. of Port Jervis, NY, a 35-year area resident, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 74.

The son of the late Joseph and Vincenza Bosco Aversa, he was born Nov. 5, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY.

Aversa was a retired mounted policeman with the New York City Police Department. He was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Vincent proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Pedrosa Aversa; a son, Vincent E. Aversa, Jr. of Sparrowbush; four sisters, Mary Fezza of Brooklyn, Eda Policano and her husband Joe of Norwood, NJ, Angie Brock of Dumont, NJ, Rose Dougherty and her husband John of Park Ridge, NJ; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Joseph T. Aversa and a sister, Louise DeRiso.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s R.C. Church with Rev. Dennis M. Dinan officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.

JAMES J. CLIFFORD

James J. Clifford, a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 56.

The son of the late James and Jean Haymen Clifford, he was born June 24, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY.

James was an air conditioner mechanic for Penguin Air Conditioning in Brooklyn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during Vietnam, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Hickey Clifford, at home; one sister, Alice Ogno of Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Marie Bradford.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 3 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection in St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Port Jervis, with the Rev. Dennis M. Dinan officiating. Burial was in the Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey, NY.

CALISTA JAYNE CORCORAN

Calista Jayne Corcoran of Sparrow-bush, NY, infant daughter of Daniel P. and Jeanne Marie Gray Corcoran, died at birth on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.

She is survived, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Daniel W. Corcoran at home; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Elizabeth Cordisco Corcoran of Sparrowbush; maternal grandparents, R. William and Judith Ryker Gray of Port Jervis; aunts and uncles; Eileen and Gary Batzel of Port Jervis, Jennifer and Vincent Cassaro of Cuddebackville, NY, Jeffrey Gray of Columbia, SC, Jon Gray of Matthews, NC; and three cousins.

Funeral services and burial were held on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis, with the Rev. August Ricciardi officiating.


ELLA DONNELLY

Ella Donnelly of Glen Spey, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 4, at St. Joseph’s Place in Port Jervis, NY. She was 86.

The daughter of Karl and Mariya Lavinovitch Kiepe, she was born in Hamborn, Germany.

Ella lived in Riga, Latvia until the age of 18. She emigrated to the United States in 1938. She was married to the late Thomas J. Donnelly. She was a member of Most Precious Blood R.C. Church, Walden, NY.

She is survived by two sons; Thomas Donnelly and his wife Sandra of Mary Esther, FL, and Charles Donnelly and his wife Ann of Glen Spey; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter Theresa Petty in 1991.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 7 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernard MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden.

FRANK W. GLOOR

Frank W. Gloor, a lifetime area resident, died on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Wayne Woodlands in Waymart, PA. He was 91.

The son of the late Rudolph and Clara Brown Gloor, he was born on November 23, 1915 in Bethel, NY.

Frank was a self-employed poultry farmer in Bethel and was a member of the Pilgrim Holyness Church in Monticello, NY.

He is survived by a brother, Fred Gloor of Clewiston, FL; nieces and nephews Raymond Gloor, William Gloor, Eileen Brey, Nancy Grant, Denise Fields, Russell Gloor, Richard Gloor, Clare Kieft, Carol Newman and Lloyd Bassney Sr.; many great-nieces and great-nephews and one special great-nephew, Lloyd Bassney Jr.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond and Russell Gloor; a sister, Ruth Bassney; a nephew, Gerald Gloor and a niece, Arlene Bennett.

The funeral was held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake, NY, on Saturday, February 3, 2007. Burial with full military honors was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.


OWEN PETER HARRISON

Owen Peter Harrison of Narrowsburg passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at home. He was 17 months old.

The son of Patrick and Peggy Kelly Harrison, he was born August 30, 2005 in Goshen, NY.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Patrick J. Harrison Jr.; a sister, Molly Harrison; paternal grandparents Eugene and Joan Harrison of Archbald, PA; his five paternal uncles, Timothy Harrison of Naples, FL, Kevin Harrison of Archbald, PA, Brian Harrison of Clarks Summit, PA, Michael Harrison of Forty Fort, PA and John Harrison of Archbald, PA; his two maternal aunts, Kathy West and Nellie Burns of Blue Bell, PA; his paternal great uncle, Robert O’Hara of Michigan; his maternal great uncle, Alfred Kelly of Arizona, maternal great-aunts Patricia Reedy of Texas and Gertrude Smith of Matamoras, PA; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Peter and Helen Stead Kelly Jr.

Visitation was held on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Narrowsburg. The Rev. William Scully OFM officiated. Burial was in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.

WALTER JULIUS LUST

Walter Julius Lust of Glen Spey, NY, a former long-time resident of Pine Island, NY died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 78.

The son of the late Julius and Elizabeth Kiel Lust, he was born August 8, 1928 in Goshen.

Walter was retired from Rupp Southern Tier in Middletown, NY after 28 years as a tractor-trailer driver, and later retired from Gillinder Bros. Glass Factory in Port Jervis. A veteran of the Merchant Marines and U.S. Army, he was a member of the Wurtsboro American Legion. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Middletown and Ontario Hose Co. of Middletown.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Burnett Lust at home; two daughters, Sharon Gunther and her husband Richard of Powhatan, VA and Deborah Terwilliger and her husband Thomas of Ellenville, NY; a sister, Wilma Hoag of Middlesex, NC; two grandchildren, Laurie Ann Leak of Powhatan, VA and Shawn Thomas Terwilliger and his companion Hope Irwin of Ellenville; three great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Gloria Newicki and Betty Ann Rudy; a brother, Albert Lust; and a brother-in-law, Peter Nowicki.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with cremation at the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.

CHARLES R. ROSENCRANS JR

Charles R. Rosencrans Jr. of Yulan, NY died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. He was 64.

The son of the late Charles R. and the late Dorothy Rassbach Rosencrans Sr., he was born September 12, 1942 in Lyndhurst, NJ.

Rosencrans retired from the Cedar Grove, NJ Post Office. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church of Padua, Yulan, and the Yulan Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Ford and her husband Alfred of Manchester, NJ; a niece; a nephew; and five great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 5, 2007 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church of Padua with Rev. Anthony Moore officiating. Burial was held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Eldred, NY.

LORRAINE RUPP

Lorraine Rupp of Barryville, NY, a housewife and a lifetime area resident, died on January 16, 2007 at Kaplan Family Hospice, Newburgh. She was 66.

The daughter of the late George and Leona Beisel Nieke, she was born May 26, 1938, in Minisink Ford, NY. She was married to Henry C. Rupp Jr., who passed away in 1995.

Survivors include Leona Biccum, who grew up as her daughter, of Barryville; a brother, George Nieke and his wife Arleene of Eldred, NY; a sister, Nancy Bachelder and her husband Richard of Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Don Rupp of Barryville; a sister-in-law, Joan Keifer of Mongaup Valley, NY; one grandson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville. Burial will take place at Lackawaxen Cemetery, Lackawaxen, PA.

GLORIA J. SCHWARTZ

Gloria J. Schwartz of Honesdale, PA died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at home after an illness. She was 68.

The daughter of the late Ernest and Georgia Rundle Horton, she was born in Port Jervis, NY.

Schwartz graduated from Eldred High School and pursued a degree in Elementary Education at the Sullivan County BOCES Education Program. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Indian Orchard.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Schwartz; two sons, John Dyser of Honesdale and Jeff Dyser of Honesdale; two daughters, Dorraine Freiermuth of Zephyrhills, FL, and Penny Dyser of Honesdale; three step-sons, Adam Schwartz of Honesdale, Albert Schwartz of Honesdale, and Matthew Schwartz of Carbondale, PA; four sisters, Emaline Leek of Eldred, NY, Elizabeth Wingert of Yulan, NY, Madeline Weiss of White Lake, NY and Betty Milk of Hancock, NY; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest Horton and Kenneth Horton.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale, with Rev. F. Graham Cliff officiating. Burial was on Monday in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Indian Orchard.

HAROLD K. WESTFALL SR

Harold K. Westfall Sr., a retired plumber for the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union Local #373 in Mountainville, NY, and life-long area resident, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at his home. He was 81.

The son of the late John and Marjorie Moulton Westfall, he was born in Port Jervis, NY, on April 8, 1925. He married Alice Sjoquist on March 8, 1946.

Harold was a veteran with the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Tri-State Naval Ship, #7241, Port Jervis, a member of the Pole Bridge Hunting Camp, the American Legion, Milford, PA, and a 50-year life member of Maghogomock Hook and Ladder, Port Jervis.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Sjoquist Westfall at home; two daughters, Kathleen “Dolly” Schmitt and her husband Robert of Yulan, NY, and Susan Smith and her husband Warner of Elizabethtown, PA; two sons, Harold “Bumpy” Westfall and his wife Christine of Glen Spey, NY, and Patrick Westfall and his wife, Susan of Eldred, NY; his brother, Donald Westfall of Port Jervis; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Emily Martin; and his brother, William Westfall.

Memorial Services were held on Friday, February 2 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, with the Rev. Betsy Diver officiating. Interment was private.

LUBOV E. YAWDOSZYN

Lubov E. Yawdoszyn of Glen Spey, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at her home. She was 93.

The daughter of the late Peter and Maria Lachowicz, she was born November 27, 1913 in Ukraine.

Lubov was the widow of the late Walter Yawdoszyn; he died June 8, 1995. She was a member of St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey.

She is survived by a son, Miroslaw Yawdoszyn of Brooklyn, NY.

She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Lachowicz.

Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
