Reward offered in eagle killing

FLANDERS, NJ — The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting a bald eagle found near Dingman’s Falls Visitor Center in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Pennsylvania in November.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the National Park Service are offering an additional $2,500 reward.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a hiker found a dead eagle on the bank of Dingmans Creek by Doodle Hollow Road near Milford on November 25. A necropsy determined the eagle, thought to be two years old, died from a gunshot. It was the third instance this year in which dead eagles, killed by guns, were found in the region. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the National Park Service are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information may contact the USFWS’ Office of Law Enforcement at 215/492-5850, the Pennsylvania Game Commission at 570/675-1143 or the National Park Service at 570/426-2457.
