Start the year with a bit of inspired nonsense

‘Ballots, Bullets and Bagatelles’ comes to the public library

HONESDALE, PA — Waynepeace will start off the New Year with a presentation of Skip Mendler’s “Ballots, Bullets, and Bagatelles,” at the Wayne County Public Library at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2.

“Ballots, Bullets, and Bagatelles” is a one-hour collection of “stories, songs, and other impertinences about war, peace, and politics” featuring performing artist and Waynepeace co-founder Skip Mendler. For this show, Mendler has drawn from a wide-ranging collection of original and adapted material, from Japanese folklore to the works of Ambrose Bierce, to create a performance that is both entertaining and thought provoking.

Mendler has been a professional performer and teacher of mime, clowning and storytelling since his graduation from Harvard College in 1978. (He says he is “not the only Harvard-educated clown to ever get involved with politics—just one of the few to admit it.”) A writer of both the “creative” and “practical” varieties, his column “Peace and Justice Files” appears twice a month in The River Reporter (see page 8 for his latest). He holds a third-degree black belt (sandan) in aikido, and is assistant instructor at Aikido of Scranton. He is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and chair of the Wayne County Green Party Committee.

The performance is suitable for teens and adults. Seating is limited. Refreshments will be served. Use of the Wayne County Public Library facilities by Waynepeace does not imply endorsement by the library of Waynepeace’s activities or viewpoints. For more information call 570/251-3637.
