CATHERINE E. WEHNER BAUMGARDT

ROSCOE, NY — Catherine Elizabeth Wehner Baumgardt of Jeffersonville died on Monday, December 11, 2006 in the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 88.

The daughter of John Stephen and Hattie Louise Dreher Wehner, she was born on January 22, 1920 in Callicoon Center.

Baumgardt was a former waitress at Richard’s Inn in Jeffersonville and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville.

She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Duncan and her husband Kenneth of Jeffersonville; one son, Walter Baumgardt and his wife Anne of Tonawanda; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth M. Sickles of Antwerp, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, George L. Baumgardt.

Services were held on Friday, December 15, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville with the Reverend Lee Andrews officiating.

FRANK ROBERT BUCK

CARBONDALE, PA — Frank Robert Buck, a resident of Welcome Lake, died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Marian Community Hospital. He was 58.

The son of the late Bernard and Lorraine Schnappauf Buck, he was born on March 7, 1948 in New York City.

Buck graduated from Lafayette High School in New York in 1965. He owned and operated a painting business before he retired.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Christine Brajuka of Welcome Lake; two sons, Michael R. Buck of Syracuse, NY, and Francis J. Roche and his wife Linda of Salisbury Center, NY; a daughter, Melissa Kerrigan and her husband Brian of Clarks Summit; two grandsons; and one nephew.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert M. Buck Sr.

Services were held on Sunday, December 17 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale.

RICHARD ALLEN CUDNEY JR

GREENVILLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Richard Allen Cudney Jr. of Otisville, NY died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. He was 18.

The son of Richard Allen and Vickie Hendershot Cudney Sr., he was born on January 22, 1988 in Goshen, NY.

Cudney, a lifetime area resident, was the owner of American Rooter Service. He graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 2006 and was in the ROTC program where he was a raider Commander for two years. He was also a member of the North American Hunting and Fishing Club. He loved snowboarding, skiing and surfing. He built racecars as a hobby.

He is survived by his parents, at home; three brothers, R.J. Cudney, A.J. Cudney and C.J. Cudney, all at home; three sisters, Nicole Cudney, Crystal Cudney and Amber Cudney, all at home; his two best friends, Nicole Tomaszewski of Slate Hill, NY and Dan Martin of Glen Spey, NY; maternal grandparents, Walter Hendershot Sr. and his companion Pat Soules of East Branch, NY and Shirley Cooper of Bloomingburg, NY; paternal grandfather Earl Cudney of Middletown, NY; step-grandparent Richard Morse; four uncles, Earl Cudney and George Cudney of Middletown, Walter Hendershot Jr. of East Branch, Paul Hendershot and his wife Natalie of Bloomingburg; three aunts, Patricia Dennison of Cuddebackville, NY, Tina Rivenburg and her husband Rick of East Branch and Robin Dougherty of Queens, NY and also many cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Patricia Morse of Middletown; and by Ivan McGraw, companion of Shirley Cooper.

Services were held on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis, NY with the Reverend Jeffrey Farley officiating.

JEAN A. HOFFMAN

ORIENTAL, NC — Jean A. Hoffman died on Tuesday, December 5, 2006. She was 63.

The daughter of Earl and Irma Fulton of Kenoza Lake, NY, she was born on January 3, 1943 in Callicoon, NY.

A registered nurse, Hoffman worked in hospitals, schools and health clinics for over 40 years. She volunteered for Hope Clinic of Pamlico County. She was an avid embroiderer, gardener and bird watcher. She was involved in numerous church and community activities.

She is survived by her husband, Roy H. Hoffman; her children, Barbara Hoffman of Suffolk, VA and Terry Visconti and her husband John of Accord, NY; two grandchildren; her brothers, George and his wife Shirley of Livingston Manor, NY, Edward and his wife Evelyn of Houston, TX, and Roger of Middletown, NY; her sisters, Margaret Sommer of North Branch, NY and Virginia Hunt and her husband Robert of Oneonta, NY; and by her mother, Irma Fulton of Beach lake, PA.

Services were held at the Oriental Methodist Church on Friday, December 15, 2006.

THERESA ANN KEENER

ROSCOE, NY — Theresa Ann Keener, a.k.a. Theresa Ann Fenshaw, of Ellenville, died December 16, 2006 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 59.

The daughter of Arthur C. and Theresa V. Condor Keener Jr., she was born on January 16, 1947 in Ellenville.

Keener was a former health care provider and a lifelong area resident.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Rose of Lakeland, FL, and Kathy Rasmussen and Brenda Fenshaw of Lake Huntington; her son, John Fenshaw of Lakeland, FL; her brothers, Arthur C. Keener III of Kerhonkson, Frank Keener of Ardonia, and Fred Keener of Texas; 14 grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John Keener.

Services were held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville with the Reverend Rosemary Keener officiating.

Interment is at the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.

JAN BERNARD MILLER

HAWLEY, PA — Jan Bernard Miller died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at home. He was 64.

The son of Loretta Kirkpatrick Miller and the late Edwin “Snoz” Miller, he was born in Honesdale.

Miller served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of Vietnam. He was later employed as a floor installer.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Miller of Lackawaxen; his companion, Joan Witkowski Jr. of Hawley; a brother, Jerry Miller of the state of Florida; a sister, Connie Ruane of Carbondale; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Watson; and a stepson, Michael Beezup.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.


JAMES M. NOLAN

PORT JERVIS, NY — James M. Nolan of Pond Eddy died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 64.

The son of the late James J. and Muriel Crinnion Nolan, he was born on September 16, 1942 in Queens.

Nolan was a retired New York City fireman and a Vietnam Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He was also the former owner of Bagels & More in Liberty, and Nolan’s Restaurant in Pond Eddy. At the time of his death he was a code enforcement officer for the Town of Highland. He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge in Liberty and a member and Lion Tamer for the Lumberland Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Mehlmann Nolan, at home; three sons, Robert Nolan and his wife Jennifer of Wantagh, James Nolan of Port Jervis, and Douglas Nolan and his wife Susan of Thompsonville; one daughter, Kelly Aukward and her husband John of Salisbury, MD; his sister, Arlene Harnett of Binghamton; four grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Edna Mehlmann of Pond Eddy; and two very close friends, Fred and Joanne Novelli.

Services were held on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church with the Reverend Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Interment is at Glen Spey Cemetery.

GARY GENE PECK

SCRANTON, PA — Gary Gene Peck of Honesdale died Monday, December 18, 2006 at Moses Taylor Hospital. He was 64.

The son of the late Ford and Pearl M. Peet Peck, he was born on January 16, 1942 in Honesdale.

Peck joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as a meteorologist at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, NY. He was also a supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor at the Unemployment Office. He was a life member of the Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Co. #2 and a member of the American Legion Post 254, both in Honesdale. He was an active member of the Honesdale First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder. He enjoyed reading and watching football.

He is survived by his wife, Florence R. Young Peck, at home; his son, Stephen F. Peck and his wife Kristin of Callicoon, NY; daughters Ann M. Warnken and her husband William of Brodheadsville, and Nancy J. Moro and her husband Frank of Waymart; sisters, Marie Simrell and Norma Nonnenmacher and her husband Eugene, both of Honesdale; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend William M. Blackie III of the Honesdale First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment is at Indian Orchard Cemetery.

BARBARA JEAN ROBISCH

HORTONVILLE, NY — Barbara Jean Robisch died on Monday, December 11, 2006. She was 73.

Robisch was a poet, writer, artist and a lover of people of all backgrounds and persuasions. She shared her life with her best friend of 20 years, Fran Hepburn and, most recently, her cat, Puss III in a beautiful location overlooking Hortonville.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Fisher of Narrowsburg; two brothers, Jim Robisch and his wife Mary of Beach Lake, PA, and John Robisch and his wife Abastasia of Longmont, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Presbyterian Church in Hortonville. Committal follows at Hortonville Cemetery. There will be a reception after the brief graveside ceremony.


DANIEL E. SHEARE

PORT JERVIS, NY — Daniel E. Sheare died on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at home. He was 77.

The son of the late Daniel F. and Gertrude Genley Sheare, he was born on March 30, 1929 in Port Jervis,

Sheare was a retired engineer for the Erie Railroad in Port Jervis. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Jervis, a life member of Mahogomock Hook and Ladder Co. #1, Port Jervis Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, a life member of the American Legion, Marsch-Kellogg Post in Milford, PA and a member of the Erie Depot Preservation Society of Port Jervis.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Sheare Storms of Port Jervis; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Hart; a niece, Patricia Kellam; and a nephew, Daniel Hart.

Prayers will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21, 2006, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Jervis with the Reverend Dennis Dinan officiating.

Interment is at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Jervis.
