Groups strategize on battling power line projects

Concern unites groups; NYRI marches forward

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Maurice Hinchey, a politician who came out early and strongly against a plan to put new power lines through the Upper Delaware Valley, met with environmental groups on December 7. Hinchey, a Democrat, has long been critical of portions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, especially the section that gave the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) the power to use eminent domain to acquire land for power line use.

Two new stores in Narrowsburg

Nest and Enochian

NARROWSBURG, NY—With Christmas shopping on the minds of most people these days, two new shops have opened their doors on Main Street.

A store called Nest opened in the Narrowsburg Mews building on December 6, but the proprietors said they’ve been planning for the opening since they signed the lease in April.

Kevin Penford described the store as “something of a modern-day general store, with clothing, books, gifts and curiosities.”

New York electricity choices demystified

NEW YORK STATE—Thanks to the ongoing deregulation of the energy industry in the state, New Yorkers now have a choice: customers can decide which company they want to purchase electricity from. In our area, customers may choose from 60 plans offered by 13 companies¾but the choice must be made by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29. Any customer who does not make a choice will automatically be enrolled in the “default supply option” with New York State Electricity and Gas (NYSEG).
