Holiday celebration
6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
FORESTBURGH, NY There will be a special event at the firehouse with hot dogs, soda and Santa to greet the children and hear their holiday wishes. Attendees are invited to support our troops for the season by bringing unwrapped items, which will be wrapped and sent to them. Entertainment will be provided by Forestburghs own Lucille Horton for a sing-along of holiday tunes.
Christmas Carol dinner theatre
6:00 p.m.
HURLEYVILLE, NY The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will present an abridged version of A Christmas Carol for an evening of dinner theatre at the Hurleyville Museum. Dinner is served from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by the show.
There is a cast of 20, directed by Bunny Woloszczak and starring Harold Tighe as Scrooge and Steve LeValle as Cratchet.
Dinner includes salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and bread. Coffee, tea and dessert will be served after the show along with more entertainment by Joana Dutcher.
Tickets cost $18 for adults, $15 for students/seniors. Children 5 and under are free.

Public menorah lighting
4:30 p.m.
MONTICELLO, NY There will be a public menorah lighting in front of the courthouse on Broadway. Free doughnuts will be provided.
Musical sleigh tours towns
5:00 p.m.
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY A lighted, musical sleigh carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, the elves and other helpers will make a 30-mile plus tour, providing entertainment and handing out goodies along the way. The first stop will be at Eldred at 5:00 p.m., and other stops will be Glen Speys Circle Park, Barryvilles four corners and Yulans ballpark. See page 32 for details.
Ornament hunt
10:00 a.m.
HONESDALE, PA Honesdales 12th annual Ornament Hunt will take place on in Central Park. This holiday event, sponsored by Greater Honesdale Partnership as part of its Honesdale for the Holidays, will offer young children the opportunity to search for ornaments for a chance to win a prize. Children will be divided into three age groups: Kindergarten and younger; first and second graders; and third and fourth graders. Prizes for the hunt are donated by greater Honesdale area businesses. 570/253-5492.

Santas workshop

ELDRED, NY Children will have an opportunity to build two wooden toys, one to give to Santa for a child in need and one to take home, at the Eldred Preserve. Santas elves, Rudolph, Frosty, the toy soldier, the Christmas mouse, the gingerbread man, the nutcracker and Mrs. Claus will be there to celebrate with all kids. Decorate and light a real Christmas tree with over 1,000 lights. Kids should bring their letters for Santa.
Kids Christmas at Grey Towers

HAWLEY, PA Children are invited to Grey Towers National Historic Landmark for a seasonal story time and activity, followed by a visit by Santa from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. 570/296-9630

Holiday crafts for kids

HONESDALE, PA The Wayne County Public Library, (1406 N. Main Street) hosts refreshments, music, and holiday stories and craft activities for the kids.
Childrens Christmas party

ELDRED, NY The Highland Lake and Yulan fire departments and American Legion Post 1363 will hold a Christmas party for area children under 13 years old. The party will feature gifts, refreshments, and a visit from Santa.

Winter solstice celebration

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA Lacawac Sanctuary will hold its annual Winter Solstice Celebration, marking the coming of the shortest day of the year by making pinecone bird feeders, and sitting around the campfire to hear stories, roast hotdogs and sip hot chocolate. Christmas tree lighting
5:30 p.m.
BETHANY, NY Bethany Assisted Living holds its second Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 150 Noble Lane. Light refreshments will be served. The 16-foot tree in the main lobby will be decorated for all to see beginning the following morning, Thursday, December 21 though Tuesday, January 2. The lobby is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 570/251-3463.
