A newspaper history of the Hawks Nest
REGION A new book, the Hawks NestNewspaper History of the Road has just been released by the 1863 Schoolhouse Press. This book is a collection of newspaper articles about the Hawks Nest Road in Deerpark, beginning in the mid 1800s. Included are old photos, some never seen in print. The articles tell the story from the time it was a single-lane dirt track until it was dedicated as the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway.
The Hawks Nest is the most photographed section of the Byway, and has been seen in national TV commercials and on the cover of magazines. Thousands of visitors stop to enjoy the scenic view throughout the year, with each season exhibiting its own individual character and beauty.
The book is available for a $15 donation to the Byway at the Upper Delaware Council, Narrowsburg, the Deerpark Town Hall, Huguenot and the Town of Deepark Museum, Grange Road, Huguenot, or call 845/754-8070.
This project was made possible by grants from Senator Bonicic and the Upper Delaware Council.
