Anthony makes history at Bucknell

Eldred grad continues his supremacy in long and triple jump at the next level

By RICHARD A. ROSS

LEWISBURG, PA - For the past few years, Eldred’s Kyle Anthony dominated the Section IX landscape with long- and triple-jump exploits. In last year’s outdoor state meet, Anthony won four gold medals. As Section IX’s top qualifier in the indoor long and triple jump, Anthony went on to take second in the state meet in the triple jump with a leap of 48-01.75

The stalwart jumper may have been just laying the groundwork for his ongoing career as he flew skyward in his first indoor college meet with astounding results.

None of this comes as a great surprise to the Eldred community or to the track mavens of Section IX who have long admired the purposeful determination of a fine jumper with exemplary character.

Here’s what Bucknell’s website had to say about Anthony’s latest quantum leaps.

“Freshman Kyle Anthony took home first-place victories in both the long jump and the triple jump as the Bucknell men’s indoor track and field team competed in the Bison Opener on Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Anthony jumped a distance of 23-11.4 (7.30 m) in the long jump and posted a distance of 48-10.34 (14.90m), which qualified him for the IC4A Championships in both events.

“He is now fourth all-time in Bucknell history in the long jump and second all-time in the triple jump. The freshman also finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28 seconds. Competing in the non-scored meet with the Bison were Howard, Indiana University (PA), Kutztown, Lock Haven, Loyola (MD), Morgan State, Shippensburg, Saint Francis (PA) Susquehanna, UMBC, and Ursinus.”
