School spirit soars at Eldred High School
ELDRED, NYEldred Junior/Senior High School overflowed with school spirit during recent Spirit Days celebration. Events included a dress reversal day when students dressed as teachers and teachers dressed as students, sports jersey and class colors days.
During the school assembly, students teamed up for friendly competitions in hoop and scooter racing, a basketball relay, a tug of war and a donut pass. The days last event, the shoe-pile relay, involved 70 pairs of shoes and 280 hands and feet of students and staff.
As part of the week-long activities, students and faculty collected and donated ten cartons of groceries to St. Anthonys food pantry in Yulan.
Live music was supplied throughout the event by the Enablers rock band, comprised of students Billy Hammond on drums, Coyote Anderson on guitar and band director Brian Nivison, on bass guitar.
When all the competitions ended and the scores were tallied, the grand prize pizza lunch went to eighth graders. Ninth graders came in second place, juniors and seniors tied for third place, tenth graders ended up in fourth place and the seventh graders came in fifth.
Eldred faculty members and event co-chairs Regina Campbell and Bob Skibinski commended the students, parents, staff and administration for the overwhelming support of this activity.
This is such a great way for students to feel good about themselves and their school, said Skibinski. Its nice to see such camaraderie.
Both staff and students agreed that this was the best Spirit Days in years.
