Spitzers reign: how will Sullivan County make out?

NEW YORK STATEWhile campaigning to become the next governor of New York, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer was fond of saying, you cannot change the world by whispering. He was also fond of invoking the legacy of Governor Dewitt Clinton, who in the early 1800s, and in spite of ridicule from many of his contemporaries, pushed ahead with the creation of the Erie Canal and transformed the state and the nation.
Spitzer is calling for just such an effort in his attempt to stem the outflow of residents and businesses from New York State, and remake the government in Albany as one that is more responsive to the needs of residents and less responsive to special interests.
But what will the reign of the new governor mean for Sullivan County?

UPPER DELAWARE RIVER VALLEY— When the man who will become the next governor of New York State says a project is dead, people tend to take him at his word. Last week, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said the proposed project to build a 190-mile power line through eight New York counties was dead because there was too much opposition to it.

Bonacic again supports Delaware River Valley Greenway
Senate and assembly versions need to be reconciled

COCHECTON, NY - Senator John Bonacic announced a plan to put forward for the second time a bill to establish a Delaware River Valley Greenway. What is now necessary is to reconcile Assemblywoman Aileen Gunthers version of the bill with his.
The state senate and the assembly approved the project, but the two bills were never reconciled because the session ended before it could be done.
