Plastics, styrofoam and synthetic materials should never be burned in barrels, pits or other residential burning areas. When burned, plastics produce dioxins, which can trigger asthma attacks and have been linked to cancer. Today, plastic coatings are even applied to chipboard products like cereal boxes and frozen food products, and for this reason, they should not be burned. Recycling is available for these and other items commonly disposed of in backyard burning devices. (See “Recycling resources” on page 4.)

That and the definition of “private road” may determine the outcome of Toronto Reservoir case

MONTICELLO, NY—The words “for any purpose” are at the center of a lawsuit involving Smallwood resident Bob Barrett and Woodstone Development Corp. At a hearing in Monticello on October 26, Judge Robert Sackett brought attention to the phrase numerous times while questioning lawyers about their interpretations of the case.

Silda Spitzer visits local Democrats

Spitzer said she is carrying her husband’s message to all parts of the state that change is coming to state government. She also carried a message urging residents to get out the vote. She was especially interested in promoting voting among women, noting that in New York State, single women made up the largest block of residents who do not exercise the right to vote.
