Lakeside Players perform chilling House on the Cliff
LAKEVILLE, PA The Lakeside Players will present George Batsons modern gothic thriller House on the Cliff starting on November 4 at Lakeville Community Hall, Route 590, (across from Caesars Cove Haven). Performance dates are Friday November 4, 10, and 17, Saturday November 5, 11 and 18, and Sunday 12 and 18. Friday and Saturday show times are 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinees are 2:00 p.m. Tickets cost $12, with $2/person discounts for groups of 10 or more.
Based on a television play from the 1950s, House on the Cliff takes place in an old mansion overlooking the northern tip of one of the Great Lakes. The house was rumored to have been the last stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The locals talk in hushed tones about an excursion boat that went down in a storm in 1918, and many say the lake is haunted by the spirits of those who drowned.
The inhabitants of this mysterious mansion include a lovely young heiress confined to a wheelchair, her coolly beautiful stepmother and an austere housekeeper. Into their midst arrives an experienced older doctor, a handsome young substitute doctor and a buoyant nurse with a taste for detective novels.
As the show progresses, the house reveals its secrets and so do the players. When a violent murder occurs, the play plunges toward a surprising climax.
Featured are Diane Altman as Karen Clayton, Marylou Ambrose as Nurse Pepper, Kim Van Orden as Ellen Clayton, Marilyn Lyman as Jenny, Mike Reynolds as Dr. Corey Phillips and Marty Courtney as Dr. Paul Lane. Tony Schwartz is directing the production.
