Lacawac to screen ‘Affluenza’

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA —Lacawac Sanctuary, in partnership with the Northeast PA Audubon Society, will present the free film “Affluenza” at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 8.

The symptoms of “Affluenza” include swollen expectations, hyper-consumerism, shopping fever, a rash of bankruptcies, chronic stress and resource exhaustion. This film is a fascinating look at two of the greatest maladies of our time: over-consumption and materialism. The program explores both the comical and the sobering aspects of our consumerism and its enormous impact on families, communities and the environment.

With the help of historians and archival film, “Affluenza” reveals the forces that have dramatically transformed us from a nation that prizes thriftiness into the ultimate consumer society. The film will be followed by an open discussion.
